Overview

Introduction

Foodly ("Foodly", "we", "us" or "our") is a restaurant discovery and collection platform. Foodly helps users save restaurant links, match social-media posts to real restaurants, organise places into collections and share selected collections with others.

This Privacy Policy explains how Foodly collects, uses, stores and discloses personal information when you use our website, mobile app and related beta prototype services.

Foodly is currently a beta prototype. Some features, contact points and operational practices may change before public launch. We will update this Privacy Policy when material changes are made.

Collection and Use

Information We Collect

The information Foodly collects depends on how you use the service.

  • Account information, such as your name, email address, authentication identifier and session information.
  • Profile information, such as username, display name, bio, avatar and public profile settings.
  • Content and activity you choose to create, such as saved restaurants, collections, collection titles and descriptions, notes, submitted restaurant or social-media links, comments, reviews, ratings, hypes, follows and shares.
  • Restaurant and place information associated with saved or public content, such as restaurant name, address, location coordinates, Google place identifiers, ratings, opening hours, phone number, website and related source links.
  • Information derived from submitted links, such as social-media captions, descriptions, author handles, thumbnails, hashtags, mentions, location hints, transcripts or extracted restaurant details where available.
  • Search and interaction information needed to provide Foodly features, such as search queries, saved-place activity, public discovery interactions and recommendation or semantic-search inputs.
  • Technical information needed to operate and secure Foodly, such as device type, browser type, operating system, app version, IP address, diagnostic information and basic performance information.
  • Information you provide when contacting Foodly for support, privacy requests or content reports.

Location Information

Foodly may request access to your current location to support map and nearby-restaurant features. Location access is optional and can be controlled through your device or browser settings.

The current app uses foreground location access to centre or sort map experiences near you. Foodly is not designed to continuously track your background location.

Foodly stores restaurant place coordinates, but does not intentionally store a continuous history of a user's precise device location as part of the current beta prototype.

How We Collect Information

Foodly generally collects information directly from you, automatically when you use product features, through device permissions you choose to grant, from authentication providers and from third-party services used to provide restaurant matching, maps, search and link-ingestion functionality.

How We Use Information

Foodly uses personal information to operate, secure, personalise and improve the service.

  • Create and manage user accounts.
  • Authenticate users and maintain secure sessions.
  • Create profiles, saved restaurants, collections, comments, reviews, hypes, follows and shares.
  • Process links submitted by users and match them to restaurants.
  • Display restaurants, collections and map results.
  • Support public discovery where a user chooses to make profile or collection content public.
  • Provide search, semantic search, ranking and recommendation functionality.
  • Debug, secure and improve Foodly.
  • Respond to support, privacy and content-report requests.
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations and enforce platform rules.

Foodly does not intend to present personalised, trending or popularity-based results as objective assessments of restaurant quality.

Sharing and Providers

Public Content and Sharing

Foodly includes private and public features. Collections are private unless you choose to share or publish them. Public profiles and public collections may be visible to other users and visitors.

Comments, reviews, ratings, hypes, follows, public collections and profile information may be associated with your account and may be visible to others depending on the feature and your settings.

Do not submit content to Foodly that you do not want processed by the service or, where you choose a public setting, made visible to others.

Third-Party Service Providers

Foodly uses third-party providers to deliver parts of the service. These providers may process information on Foodly's behalf where reasonably necessary to operate the product.

Foodly does not sell users' personal information. We may disclose information if required by law, if reasonably necessary to investigate misuse, or to protect Foodly, users and the public.

Social-Media and Third-Party Content

Foodly lets users submit links to third-party content, including TikTok and Instagram links. Foodly may process publicly available information associated with those links to identify restaurants and display relevant source context.

Foodly does not claim ownership of third-party creator content. Third-party platforms operate under their own terms and privacy policies.

Overseas Disclosure

Some service providers used by Foodly may operate or process information outside Australia, including in countries where cloud, authentication, AI, mapping or link-processing providers maintain infrastructure.

Where practicable, Foodly will maintain an internal provider inventory for launch that records significant providers, processing purposes and available data-location information.

Security and Retention

Reports, Blocking and Community Safety

When you report content, we store your account identifier, the reported account or content identifier, your reason and details, a snapshot of the reported content, timestamps and the moderation decision. Authorised moderators can review these records. We may send report details, user identifiers and content links through our configured email delivery provider (Amazon SES or Resend), to Foodly's moderation inbox. We also use our email provider to deliver account verification and password-reset links to your email address. Reports are not shown to the reported user or the public.

We store blocking relationships to enforce safety preferences and do not notify someone when you block them. We record the version and time of your terms acceptance and your declaration that you meet our minimum age. This declaration does not collect your date of birth or an identity document.

Blocking relationships and terms-acceptance records are removed during account deletion. Reports, content snapshots and moderation decisions may remain where reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, handle appeals, protect users or meet legal obligations. Access is restricted to authorised personnel, including in the moderation mailbox. Contact Foodly to request access, correction or deletion of safety records.

How We Hold and Protect Information

Foodly stores application and account information using cloud-based infrastructure and service providers.

  • Secure authentication and session handling.
  • Access controls for backend systems.
  • Encrypted network connections where supported.
  • Server-side provider credentials kept out of client applications.
  • Backend authorization checks for private user data and owner-only actions.
  • Durable deletion workflows for account and collection cleanup.

No internet-based service can guarantee absolute security. Foodly aims to reduce risk by limiting unnecessary collection and retaining information only where there is a product, operational, security or legal reason.

Data Retention

InformationRetention Approach
Account and profile informationKept while your account is active, then deleted or de-identified after account deletion unless retention is required for legitimate operational, security or legal reasons.
Saved restaurants, collections, notes and submitted linksKept until removed by you, deleted through account deletion, or no longer needed for the service.
Public collections, comments, reviews, hypes and followsKept while active, public or associated with an active account, subject to user deletion, account deletion and moderation needs.
Restaurant/place records and third-party source contextMay be retained as shared platform data where it is not specific to a single user's private account data.
Technical, security and support recordsKept as long as reasonably necessary for debugging, security, support, audit or legal purposes.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

The Foodly website may use cookies or similar technologies required for authentication, security, session management, application preferences and product functionality.

Foodly does not currently describe optional advertising tracking as part of the beta prototype. If optional analytics, advertising or marketing tracking is introduced, this policy should be updated to describe that use and any choices available to users.

Your Rights

Access, Correction and Deletion

You may request access to personal information Foodly holds about you, or ask Foodly to correct information that is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date.

Where available, you may update profile and account information directly through account settings. You may also delete your Foodly account from the account settings area by confirming the deletion action.

When an account is deleted, Foodly starts a backend cleanup workflow for associated account data, including profile information, user-owned collections, collection items, saved places, follows, hypes, comments, shares, social saves and avatar storage where applicable. Some restaurant/place records or public third-party source records may remain as shared platform data where they are not specific to the deleted user's private account.

You can also contact p84projectfoodly@gmail.com for access, correction, deletion or privacy questions.

Marketing Communications

Foodly does not treat creation of a Foodly account as automatic consent to receive unrelated promotional marketing.

If optional marketing communications are introduced, users will be given an appropriate opportunity to choose whether to receive them and unsubscribe where required. This does not prevent Foodly from sending necessary account, security or service-related communications.

Children and Young People

Foodly is not directed to children under 16. You must be at least 16 years old to use Foodly. If you are under 18, you should use Foodly only with the involvement of a parent or guardian where required by law.

If Foodly becomes aware that it has collected personal information from a child in circumstances where it should not have done so, Foodly will take reasonable steps to address the information.
